In the past, 100% of the company's touch panels are outsourced from other makers, but Innolux has decided to enter the segment due to rising demand for touchscreen panels, the paper noted.
Although industry sources indicated Innolux's new plant will mainly support Apple's iPhone, Tuan clarified that Apple now is just a potential customer for the company, the paper reported.
In response to next-generation LCD plant roadmap, the president commented the company is expected to secure land for such use by year-end. Therefore, Innolux may begin operation at a next-generation plant in 2008, Tuan noted.
Tuan is positive about the LCD industry in the second quarter and estimated the company's sales will have improved this quarter.
Innolux is also very competitive in the digital photo frame market, said the company. Currently, the maker offers panels at sizes from 5.6, 7, 8, to 10.2 inches. With monthly capacity of 45,000 substrates at its 4.5-generation (4.5G) plant, the company is able to produce 1.4 million 7-inch LCD panels per month, Innolux pointed out.
In related news, Tuan denied that Innolux plans to acquire Chunghwa Picture Tubes (CPT) to partner with Taiwan-based solar wafer supplier Green Energy Technology, a fully-owned subsidiary of Tatung Group, parent company of CPT, for the solar power market.
