在下面的文章中,就介绍了一家英国公司为监狱中的犯人提供触摸屏查询系统的应用。
The Prison Service has started to install information kiosks providing a range of advice on issues such as family breakdown, debt and depression
Prisoners are to get touchscreen information terminals in an attempt to reduce the risk of self-harm and re-offending, it was announced on 27 October 2005.
The Prisoner Information Points, installed in prisons and secure facilities across England and Wales are intended to give easier access to help and advice, particularly on issues such as depression.
The first 14 terminals, installed by supplier BT, are being funded by the Legal Services Commission which works with HM Prison Service. They display local and national information.
Steve Templeman regional director of East Midlands Legal Services Commission said: "The importance of giving prisoners access to information on a range of subjects including family breakdown, debt and housing should not be underestimated."
"Quality advice on the inside means that they can better prepare for life on the outside. Prisoners and their families can take early action to avoid problems escalating, and reduce the risk of re-offending."
Glyn Jones, project leader at HMPS, said: "The terminals will benefit both prisoners and staff helping to combat re-offending by communicating the services available to inmates."
Information for prisoners was previously produced as paper copies, which were difficult to keep up-to-date. With the new system, content is sent to a central computer at each prison and loaded onto kiosks using a USB key fob.
The terminals display information in a choice of eight languages, with translations provided by thebigword. The terminals provide information at three stages: induction, sentence and resettlement. Material is tailored for men, women and young offenders.
The Prison Service will monitor the terminals to evaluate how much they are being used.
